Best Known Natural Home Remedies For Nail Fungus

Nail fungus is very common because it is highly contagious. Besides looking very bad, it also produces discomfort and it can become painful.

Home remedies for nail fungus are very popular because they can eliminate the fungal infection and make the nail look good again. However, you should be aware of the fact that no matter how good the remedies are, they won’t solve the problem overnight and they need to be applied consistently for a while before the fungus disappears.

Hydrogen Peroxide

Many people have found their relief in hydrogen peroxide (3%). This is one of the most used home remedies for nail fungus. It can be easily found in any drug store. Soak your affected nails in hydrogen peroxide for 20 minutes twice a day. If you consider the hydrogen peroxide too harsh, you can mix it with water and soak your nails in that solution.

Tea Tree Oil

One of the most effective home remedies for nail fungus is tea tree oil. This has powerful antifungal and antiseptic properties and it eliminates the infection completely. Apply tea tree oil on the affected nail without diluting it. Gently rub the oil on the nail and leave it there for 10 or 15 minutes. After applying the oil, you can use a soft toothbrush in order to gently scrub the nail. This removes the upper layer which is the most affected by fungus and allows the oil to reach under the nail, where fungus can also exist.

Not only tea tree oil is effective in this condition of the nails. Other oils such as lavender oil, olive oil, thyme oil and oregano oil are proven home remedies for nail fungus. You can mix tea tree oil with olive oil and thyme oil or with lavender oil in equal proportions. Oregano oil is renowned for its antibacterial and antiseptic properties. It can be mixed with olive oil. All mixtures can be used the same way you would have used undiluted tea tree oil.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar and lemon juice are effective home remedies for nail fungus because the acid they contain prevents the fungus from spreading. You can soak your nails in water mixed with apple cider vinegar on a daily basis. However, it is also important to exfoliate the nail. Make sure you don’t harm it in any way when doing this. Make your natural scrub from rice flour and apple cider vinegar and your moisturizer from lemon juice and olive oil. These are also good home remedies for nail fungus.

Some people have also been successful with Listerine mouthwash, so this can be added to the previous home remedies for nail fungus. Soak your feet in Listerine mixed with lemon juice, or simply apply the mixture on the affected nails with a cotton ball.
